Two young people have perished after another violent collision took place on Route 138 between Ste-Martine and Mercier last evening.
The accident last night took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a vehicle travelling on the 138 in the westbound direction reportedly left the lane it was driving in - and was said to have subsequently crashed into a vehicle headed east. The exact nature or déroulement of the event has not been confirmed thus far.
The 19-year-old driver and his 16-year-old female passenger who were inside the westbound vehicle were taken to hospital seriously injured, where later their deaths were confirmed. The driver of the eastbound vehicle is reportedly being treated for less severe injuries.
Icy road conditions between St Martine and Ville Mercier were reported at the time of the accident.
The Sûreté du Québec are to conclude their investigation in determining any contributing factors that may have caused this tragic event.
A local petitions has been launched with the goal to reduce speed on highway 138 after numerous accidents and fatalities have occurred along the route.
