Fire on St Hubert Street in Chateauguay

Fire broke out in a Chateauguay apartment block on rue St Hubert today.

Sirens could be heard all over the central area of the town as firefighters from Chateauguay and St Remi battled the mid afternoon blaze.

Power was cut off to local area homes for about 1 hr + this afternoon.

Firefighters remained on scene into evening to ensure the fire was extinguished.

Mary Gardner school which is adjacent to the apartment building was not affected yet it is unknown at this time how many residents have been forced to find other accommodations due to the blaze. The Manoir D’Youville is said to be housing some of the tenants.

The building has suffered fire and smoke damage.
